Review: Entwined With You by Sylvia Day

Entwined with You (Crossfire, #3)

Goodreads Summary: The worldwide phenomenon continues as Eva and Gideon face the demons of their pasts, and accept the consequences of their obsessive desires…
From the moment I first met Gideon Cross, I recognized something in him that I needed. Something I couldn’t resist. I saw the dangerous and damaged soul inside–so much like my own. I was drawn to it. I needed him as surely as I needed my heart to beat.
No one knows how much he risked for me. How much I’d been threatened, or just how dark and desperate the shadow of our pasts would become.
Entwined by our secrets, we tried to defy the odds. We made our own rules and surrendered completely to the exquisite power of possession…

Mild Spoilers for Book 1 & 2 ahead

Generally, these aren't the kind of books I normally read. I'll pick up adult fiction every now and again, but erotica is a little different. I don't stay away from it as a rule or anything, mostly because it's not really my thing, but every once in a while I'll want to read something outside of my comfort zone. The only real reason I picked up the first book in the Crossfire series, Bared To You, is because my friend told me it was sort of like Fifty Shades of Gray (a book I wanted to like, but ended up hating with a passion), only much, much better. I wanted to see if the plot could actually be done right, and Sylvia Day has definitely managed it. Her books just have this raw feeling infused in them that just make everything seem so raw.

I've always liked Eva. Despite the fact that her boyfriend is one of the richest men in the world, she still tries to be very independent and stands up for herself. She was exactly the kind of heroine I wanted when I was reading that previously mentioned Other Book. Gideon Cross is the best kind of hot, complex male lead in the story. He does have his faults, and though their relationship may not exactly be healthy all the time, the two of them really do the best they can given the circumstances, and I just love how much they care for each other. The author is no stranger to writing killer love scenes, and it most certainly shows.

What I loved about Entwined With You is that there was no horrible break-up parts like there are in the previous books. That was what really got under my skin in Reflected In You; both of them always seemed to be jumping to conclusions about one thing or another before either had a chance to explain themselves. But in this installment, they somehow manage to stay together the entire book. And this is part of the reason that EWY is my favorite of them all so far. Everything that E&G have to deal with comes from their awful pasts, and some things they brought on themselves (mostly from Gideon's side, like his issues with Corrine and Anne), and some things they did not. I felt really bad for them watching one thing spring up after another.

Something else I really appreciate are the side characters. I can't help but notice that in most novels like these the main two characters are always the most important and everyone else is just sort of there in the background. And while this is true to some extent with the Crossfire series, at the same time I grew to care a lot about the others, especially Cary. For me, this is one of the things that sets these books apart from the genre as a whole. I thought this was going to be a three-book series, but at the end, there is an author's note saying she will write more - and I was so relieved! There are still a bunch of things that haven't happened yet, and their story didn't feel like it was over at all.

  1. By the last third of this book I was like "wow she's got a lot to wrap up yet." Than we find out there are going to be more books. I wish I would have known that before hand. While I liked Entwined with You more than the other two books I can't say I am a huge fan of this series. I think Gideon is abusive and controlling. But I am curious to see where the story is going to go.

    Thanks for the review.
