Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Links go to Goodreads. This week, the topic is:

Top Ten Series You'd Like to Start but Haven't Yet

1. A Song Of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin - These books look interesting, and they certainly are popular, but have you seen the SIZE of them? I'm not usually one to be intimidated by a book's length, but they rival the Bible in size. O_o

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1)

2. The Need series by Carrie Jones - I'm not sure why I haven't started this yet, I've owned the first book for the past year or so. It's just one of those books I never got around to after purchasing. I have way too many of those these days...

Need (Need, #1)

3. The Wings series by Aprilynne Pike - I remember starting this in the bookstore a long time ago, thinking it was interesting, buying it, and it's a blur after that.

Wings (Wings, #1)

4. The Ascendance Trilogy by Jennifer A. Nielsen - I can't BELIEVE I haven't gotten to this yet - I remember buying it the day it came out.

The False Prince (The Ascendance Trilogy, #1)

5. The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini - Okay, so that's actually a lie, I have read about 70 pages of Eragon, but I just put it down and never picked it back up.

Eragon (The Inheritance Cycle, #1)

6. Hundred Oaks by Miranda Kenneally - This looks like such a fun contemporary series, hopefully I'll get around to it when I'm feeling blue.

Catching Jordan (Hundred Oaks, #1)

7. The Eon Series by Alison Goodman - I hear nothing but good things about this, and yes, it's also sitting unread on my bookshelf. I am a fail.

Eon

8. River Of Time series by Lisa Tawn Bergren - I love books about time travel, so I need to get on this ASAP. Seriously.

Waterfall (River of Time, #1)

9. Books of Faerie by Maggie Stiefvater - I really enjoyed her writing in Shiver, and that was about werewolves, so I'd like to see how she handles faeries.

Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception (Books of Faerie, #1)

10. Curse Workers by Holly Black - Again, heard good things, but I am lazy and haven't gotten to it yet.

White Cat (Curse Workers, #1)

And what makes me sad is that my TBR stack is so huge right now I don't know if I'll be getting to any of these in the next decade. Dang.

A lot of these are on my TBR as well.

  2. I absolutely loved The False Prince! I think it's one of the best books I read last year. It has great characterization and it's actually suspenseful; you really can't predict the plot.

Eragon is ok. I think the series reads a bit like a boy's fantasy world--hot Elf and completely implausible killing abilities. There are also a lot of clear borrowings from series like The Lord of the Rings. I read the first three books but haven't read the fourth. I'm really not willing to pay $30 for it!

The River of Time series is fun. I think the writing is a little silly (that's probably some type of blasphemy, considering the series has a lot of very loyal fans!), but the plot is entertaining.

    1. I've heard great things about the False Prince, and the sequel just came out a few days ago, so, yeah, I'd better get on it. :)

Yeah, I couldn't really get into Eragon, but it's my best friend's favorite series ever, and she's been wanting me to read them literally for years. So I'm sure I'll get back to the books; maybe I'll enjoy them more in the future. I can only hope.

Silly? Hmm. Well, we'll see. Waterfall looks interesting, but I have heard similar complaints about it before.

  3. ooh, great list! I've never heard of waterfall but it looks good. Holly Black is a series I have wanted to read since before I started book blogging. Somehow my list is growing and growing and I never get around to the older books I want to read. I liked the Need series you have on your list and would like to read game of thrones too.
    Happy Reading

    1. Thanks! I don't know why I've never read a Holly Black book - they all sound great, but it's probably because of that problem you mentioned. My TBR is over 1000 books on Goodreads, and the new releases I want just naturally jump to the front of the list. Maybe I'll take like a month or so in the future to just read stuff that's a year older or more.

  4. I've read the first book in the Need series, but I didn't like it.
I've also listened to the first book in the Curse Workers series. That one I did like. Really good!!

    1. I really liked the phobias at the beginning of Need (I did read like the first two chapters) but there was something about the writing that kind of put me off.

      Thanks!
